Conduct and Misconduct

The University distinguishes between academic misconduct and general misconduct.

General Misconduct

General misconduct is covered in the Conduct and Misconduct Policy.

The Conduct and Misconduct Policy details the expected conduct of members of the University, mainly through listing and defining what constitutes misconduct.

In some instances, misconduct may be inadvertent, or done through ignorance. Neither of these is an excuse or a defence.

Please familiarise yourself with the Policy. It includes a list of actions that are considered general misconduct. These range from the very serious to ones that some people may consider unimportant. However they are important because they have the capacity to harm others.

The Policy also details response pathways and actions.

Awareness and early intervention are key aspects of providing a fair and just environment. Consultative and appropriate responses, including escalation where needed, are integral to this Policy.

If you witness, become aware of, or experience misconduct you are encouraged to seek advice from, discuss with, or report the incident to a member of staff.

You can also contact the University’s Fair Treatment and Safeguarding Coordinator.
