History
The theological position of ALC is that of the LCA as contained in the confessional paragraph of its constitution. All our theology has its beginning and centre in the gospel of Jesus Christ, the good news that God accepts sinners unconditionally and forgives them because of Christ. This central teaching of Scripture is spelt out most clearly in the doctrine of justification by faith, which has always been foundational for the Lutheran Church. This states that people, alienated from God because of sin, are put right with God (or justified) through faith in Christ. The Lutheran Church holds that the doctrine of justification is the proper key to unlocking the message of the Scriptures. Read more about ALC’s history
ALC Campus
While ALC is located in Adelaide, South Australia, the greater majority of our students are based outside Adelaide. These students benefit from our innovative and distributed approaches to learning that utilise online learning, intensives located throughout Australia and New Zealand, and practices that support deep reflection in each of our student’s local contexts.
Adelaide staff are based in either LCANZ Church House at Level 2, 139 Frome Street, or ALC Library at Level 1, 22 Pulteney Street, both centrally located in the Adelaide CBD and close to public transport.

ALC Library
ALC Library supports the learning, teaching and research needs of students and staff of Australian Lutheran College and the wider University of Divinity. With access to a wide range of print and electronic resources, we serve ALC students throughout Australia and the wider pastoral and academic community of the Lutheran Church of Australia.
The library, located at Level 1, 22 Pulteney Street Adelaide, is open on Tuesdays – Fridays from 8.30am – 4.00pm (closed on public holidays).
Collection Strengths and Specialties
Over 90,000 theological and educational resources and research tools. Large collection of digital assets. Collection of rare books including 1551 imprint of the Luther Bible and an original edition of the Book of Concord.
