Dr Paul Daniels

Dr Paul Raimond Daniels is an Honorary Research Associate at the University of Divinity at the Trinity College Theological School in Parkville, Melbourne, and the Research Administrative Officer for Research Strategy (Office of the Vice-Chancellor) at the University of Divinity.

Paul is the author of Nietzsche and The Birth of Tragedy (Routledge, 2014), and has otherwise published book chapters, articles and translations on figures in modern German thought and theological aesthetics. His doctorate researched Hans Urs von Balthasar’s apocalyptic reading of Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophy of tragic affirmation, and he continues to research topics at the intersection of tragedy and theology (currently working on a monograph in this area).

Paul was previously a Research Associate with the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies at the University of Melbourne, and is a member and past Convenor of the Melbourne School of Continental Philosophy (MSCP). He has lectured and co-lectured courses with the MSCP on figures within the German philosophical tradition, and has more recently tutored at the Trinity College Theological School at the University of Divinity and the Franciscan School of Theology at the University of San Diego.
